Throughout May and early June the Ludlow Fairtrade Town Group held a range of fundraising events to support Traidcraft Exchange’s Regenerators Appeal. Read more to find out the highlights, and the all-important fundraising total….

Through the Regenerator’s Appeal, Traidcraft Exchange are working with smallholder producers in developing countries to empower them to combat the devastating effects of climate change.

We are delighted to announce that over £750 has been raised thanks to the generous donations of those who attended the events:

  • The Virtual Big Brew, our first ever online event, raised £135 + £23.75 Gift Aid
  • The St Laurence’s Church Bring and Buy Bake sale, plus the retiring collection after the Parish Eucharist, raised £259.90 + £70.00 Gift aid
  • The second-hand book stall and the Local Ludlow market raised £180
  • The raffle and second-hand book stall at the Traidcraft Summer Pop-up raised £190 + £2.50 Gift Aid

…giving a grand total of £764.90 + £96.25 Gift Aid

Thanks to UK Aid Match doubling, this means that Traidcraft Exchange will receive a grand total of £1,626.05 as a result of donations from the Ludlow community – an absolutely phenomenal amount.

We are absolutely delighted by the amount raised and would like to extend our gratitude to everyone who supported our events and made a donation. The success we’ve seen is a real testimony to the generosity of the local community, who are clearly committed to supporting charitable efforts even after a very challenging year.

As of the end of May over £420,000 had been raised for Traidcraft Exchange, with the total value yet to be confirmed (we’ll keep you posted!) but likely to push the £500,000 mark.

The money raised will support the charity’s work with vulnerable communities in Bangladesh, India and East Africa. Matched funding from the UK government will fund a new project with farmers in Tanzania to help them learn climate-smart farming techniques as well as investing in green technology such as irrigation systems and solar panels.
