The Fairtrade Foundation is an independent non-profit organisation that works directly with businesses, consumers and campaigners to make trade deliver for farmers and workers.
The Fairtrade Foundation is the UK member of Fairtrade International – which is the world’s largest and most recognised fair trade system. Fairtrade is now one of the largest and most diverse global movements for change, working with 1.7 million farmers and workers, as well as a global grassroots supporter base of more than 2000 Fair Trade Towns in 28 countries, and countless schools, universities and faith groups.
The Foundation Foundation was established in 1992 by CAFOD, Christian Aid, Oxfam, Traidcraft, Global Justice Now, and the National Federation of Women’s Institutes.
The Fairtrade Foundation focuses on four key areas of work in the UK:
- They license the use of the FAIRTRADE Mark in the UK. Products which carry the FAIRTRADE Mark have been independently verified so you can guarantee that they meet strict social, environmental and economic standards.
- They help to grow demand for Fairtrade products and empower producers to sell to traders and retailers.
- They find new ways of working with our partners to support producer organisations and their networks.
- They raise public awareness of the need for Fairtrade and the significant role of Fairtrade in making trade fair.
